2011 Mastretta MXT Edition

Mexico may be known for building most of our vehicles, including the products supposedly American, but they have not built a true sports car of their own. The good people over the Mastretta are looking to change all that.

The new MXT is powered by a Duratec 2.0-liter inline-four with a turbocharger that cranks out 250 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque. This power should be enough as the MXT is light and very basic.

The exterior of the car is not anything to write home about, but we have heard, it seems much better in person. The car uses a semi-monocoque construction with an aluminum pot belly and a carbon fiber subframe steel. Covering all these is a body of plastic reinforced with fiberglass.

The MXT is on its way to Europe with a price of £ 31,000 and £ 38,000. While it may seem cheap for a high-performance sports car, take a look at the specs and you’ll change your mind in a heartbeat. The MXT is without ABS, stability control and airbags, making this machine a trap for the inexperienced driver. Convert the price from pounds to dollars and you are looking for a vehicle that costs as much as a Ford Mustang GT500.

We can not be certain that the MXT will be coming to America any time soon, as the company will try to build some momentum for sales in Europe first. Not to mention passing the emission tests in the country is harder than astrophysics. Still, it may be years behind the Mustang GT500, but it certainly will turn heads more than one.

This car was the first car project at home the company committed itself in the car based on a production platform widely available at this time. Although the car had modest dynamic capabilities, which emphasized in its quality construction and innovative design. Thirty units were built MXB 1996-1998, which were sold in Mexico, Europe, Japan and the U.S.

The vision began in 2006 MXT. The goal was to create a new sports car with an original and provocative style. For the first time in company history, a proprietary chassis was developed with all the technical elements of engineering, with the exception of the powertrain. After years working on the design of the vehicle, talking to potential suppliers, creating the first prototypes and do preliminary tests, the MXT Prototype Zero debuted at the 2008 British Motor Show in London. Production was planned to start in 2009, but the international financial crisis delayed the project for one year.
