2012 Opel Ampera Edition

The revolutionary Ampera Opel celebrated its world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show. General Motors Europe President Carl-Peter Forster, said the electric car with extended-range and announced plans to put the car into production in late 2011.The Ampera Opel will also be offered with the right hand drive in the UK by sister Opel-Vauxhall brand.

“The Opel Ampera demonstrates the leadership of GM in the electrification of the automobile,” said Carl-Peter Forster. “It’s innovative Voltec electric propulsion system is the type of technology to change the game by the automotive industry needs to respond to energy and environmental challenges.” The five-door, four seater Opel Ampera is influenced by the design language of Opel’s award-winning sculptural artistry meets German precision, incorporating several styling cues from the innovative Flextreme and GTC Concept Car Show

“There could be a more appropriate way to celebrate 110 years of Opel innovation in the automotive industry, revealing the Opel Ampera,” said Alain Visser, Vice President GME Opel wheels Opel. The Ampera is always electrically powered at all times and speeds. For trips up to 60 km (MVEG), runs on electricity stored in the battery of 16 kWh lithium-ion battery, and emits zero CO2. When the battery power runs out, electricity from a motor-generator extends the range of 500 to over Ampera km.The Opel Ampera can be plugged into any 230V household outlet to charge. GM Europe is examining the requirements of an infrastructure for recharging plug-in cars with electric power companies, including Iberdrola of Spain.

Opel Gets Ampera power and refinement of the propulsion system Voltec

The revolutionary Ampera Opel will be the first car-free emission, electrically powered in Europe suitable for everyday driving. With its electric propulsion system provides lively acceleration and high levels of refinement, the five-door Opel Ampera seats four passengers in comfort, offers a useful trunk for your luggage, and has a wide range of over 500 km.

Auto-electric is not only about ecology, “he said global vehicle line and chief engineer Frank Weber. Auto-electric is also great fun. Instant, silent torque of 370 Nm on the right foot just seems to fly! ”

Electricity drives the wheels of the Opel Ampera at all times and speeds. For trips up to 60 km (MVEG), power is supplied by electricity stored in the tip, 16-kWh, lithium-ion batteries.

During the conduction of electricity supplied by the battery, the Opel Ampera emits zero CO2. When battery power is depleted, a motor-generator provides electricity gasoline/E85-fueled continuously to feed the electric drive unit while maintaining the battery charge. This mode of operation extends the range of 500 kilometers, until the battery can be charged by connecting the charging system on board the vehicle in a standard 230V outlet.

Opel driver Ampera gives confidence and peace of mind

Unlike a conventional battery-electric vehicle, the Opel Ampera eliminates “range trauma,” giving the confidence and peace of mind that the driver will not be arrested for a discharged battery.

“A system of advanced lithium ion batteries is the key to getting the Opel Ampera the hands of consumers,” said Hans Demant, GME’s president vice president of engineering. “The engineers in our research and development in Mainz-Kastel, Germany are testing the battery per day, 365 days a year to ensure it meets the expectations of our customers.”

The battery pack is manufactured by Opel Ampera GM’s first facility producing lithium-ion battery to be operated by a major U.S. automaker. More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provides enough power. The unit nearly silent electric drive offers 370 Nm of instant torque, the equivalent of 150 horsepower, zero to 100 km / h acceleration in approximately nine seconds and a top speed of 161 km / h.

The Opel Ampera be adequate for daily driving time from most European customers. For example, about 80 percent of German drivers travel less than 50 km per day.

Opel estimates that one kilometer electrically driven at Opel Ampera will cost about one fifth compared to a conventional gasoline vehicle, the current fuel prices.
