Volvo has long played it safe in terms of style and design of the vehicle, deciding to pursue the safety-conscious families who need high-level bot not quite the luxury transportation for their families. Now, the Swedish automaker back to the drawing board and started from scratch with a new S60, which aims to be as sexy as it is safe.

The new S60 offers much in the way of luxury and performance than ever as weapons to more upscale – and expensive – rivals like the BMW 335i and Mercedes-Benz C350. Although it clearly follows Volvo design language of today, the S60 promises even more active and passive safety, and sports performance.

This price represents an increase of about $ 800 on the price of output data S60 T5 model base – but the new car adds about 50 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel-drive and several additional features that make the modest bump a big deal.


Besides a new design language, the new S60 seems to demonstrate the desire of the Volvo to move toward more slim A and C-pillars for better visibility. Over the years, this structural support became much thicker in most vehicles for structural and style. Volvo seems to have kept the style up to snuff, without sacrificing their safety iconic.

Volvo’s latest pedestrian safety technology that recognizes also made his debut at S60. Able to detect when a collision with a pedestrian is imminent, the system automatically activates the brakes to avoid a S60. Volvo notes that more than 4,700 deaths of pedestrians in the United States occur annually, the action really makes sense in Europe, where 14 percent of all car accidents involving a pedestrian on the continent crowded, narrow streets.

Volvo S60 will be promises that your product more attractive, to date, where the S60 output was neither as happy nor as luxurious as its rivals, so the automaker is clearer in its intentions for the completely new model.

The U.S. spec S60 comes standard with a 300 horsepower, 325 Nm of torque turbocharged inline six-cylinder mated exclusively – for now – a transmission Six-speed Geartronic automatic. All S60s come with US-spec all-wheel-drive, although a cheaper model should eventually be offered through a shift to front wheel drive.


The sport suspension is standard, as well as City Safety, which can automatically brake the S60 in case of a low velocity impact pending.

Detection technology of innovative pedestrian Volvo adds $ 2,100 and comes in a package that also includes adaptive cruise control and output warning track.

A $ 1,500 premium package adds a sunroof, power passenger seat and the xenon headlamps, while a $ 800 climate package brings heated front seats, nozzles heated windshield wash, headlamp washers, rain sensor, windscreen windshield and a system of indoor air quality. For $ 2,700, buyers can specify the multimedia package, which adds a Dolby Pro Logic II audio Audyssey, a rear parking camera and navigation.

Other available options include metallic paint ($ 550), inserts in wood interior ($ 300), front and rear parking assist ($ 500), the Blind Spot Information (BLIS) ($ 700) and an active chassis ($ 750). The $ 850 destination charge applies to all S60s.
