After launching the brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, did not take long for the questions and the rumors started flying: Will bring back the Jeep Cherokee SRT8? Chrysler’s Street and Race Technology team remained quiet for all the speculation and wait until the 2011 auto show New York to deliver his answer in the form of its latest super Jeep, 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.
While testing the first-gen Cherokee SRT8 around Willow Springs Raceway in California in 2006, we quickly discovered that its 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 – rated at 420 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque – helped make it one of the sport faster and more agile / utilities that had never been tested, beating the Porsche Cayenne Turbo in skidpad slalom, and 0-60 mph time (4.8 to 5.1 seconds, respectively).
Not surprisingly, renewed Chrysler Hemi 6.4 liters was installed under the hood of the Jeep super new. The figures concerning the power and torque bump up to 465, 45 more than before. Jeep is still the sort of time from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, although there is a good chance that Chrysler could be sandbags. We’ll find out soon when we get our hands on one.
More power, however, is not equivalent to fuel economy has declined, thanks to Chrysler Fuel Saver Technology for 2012 and new active safety valve, which deactivates four cylinders in most situations cruise. This should be good enough for a 13 percent improvement in fuel consumption of the road, according to estimates from the automaker.
